We Love Rabanal!

We are spending the night in Rabanal and wish we could spend many more days here. I am sitting on a stone wall outside of an ancient (built in 1034) church and the bells are ringing. Could it be any more peaceful? We just came from Sunday night vespers sung in Gregorian chant by the monks who live right here. The church is small and it was packed. We will go back to church at 9:30 for evening prayers and the pilgrim blessing.

The albergue we are staying in is run by volunteers who can't seem to do enough for us. They provided basins of sea salt for anyone who wanted to soak their feet. Afternoon tea was available and a warm fire was burning in the fireplace. A little later in the afternoon we were relaxing in very comfortable chairs and they served wine and cookies. Emily and Mona had their feet checked by the blister expert. More pictures to tell the story.
PS-no wifi here
PPS-Just got home from evening prayers.  I was honored to do the reading so I sat on the altar with three monks and one nun. When I said goodnight one of the monks said I had the voice of an angel. I told him it was a good thing he didn't ask me to sing!

  1. You're headed back into the hills. It looks beautiful! Do the stone walls remind you of New England? Was your knight training a falcon, or a hawk?

How are the pilgrims holding up? It looks like Rabana is only about 225 km from Santiago de Compostela. You're making great strides towards the end! Way to go!!
