La Casa de los Dioses Cantina-May 20

We had a wonderful morning walk in the country. The weather was sunny and warm enough to take off our jackets pretty quickly. After an upward climb we reached another famous Camino stop-the house of David. David is quite well known on the Camino for his kindness to pilgrims. For 8 years he has welcomed people to his little oasis. He gives away all kinds of juice, fruit, vegetables and bread. There is a small donation box but he doesn't even mention it. He has a few hammocks, benches and covered areas for relaxing. Today he had fresh strawberries and watermelon, peaches, apples, cucumbers, bananas and more. He had freshly squeezed  (?) watermelon juice that we sampled. He also said he had peanut butter for the Americans! Later when we took a picture he saw my 'allergy to peanuts ' sign taped to my phone and mentioned it. This stop was just what we needed! By the time we reached the city of Astorga Mona's feet were done for the day.  We tried to get her an appointment at an osteopathic clinic but it was closed for the day. We thought it best to call a taxi for her. Emily and I walked on another 3-4km. We are staying at a hostal so we have our own room again. No complaints about that! We had dinner with our new Camino friend Eric from Utah. We first met him this morning and then after we arrived in Murias de Rechivaldo I ran into him at the washing machine. (We usually wash clothes by hand but this hostal has a washer and dryer and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to let the machines do the work for us.) I am sitting outdoors at 9;16 pm in daylight, though the sun is setting, waiting for the dryer to stop. I've lost Emily and Mona, but I am sure they will turn up soon!

Someone special is having her 6th birthday today.  Happy Birthday to Elise Helene! Elise is Emily's granddaughter.
Here is a picture od David and his cantina.

  1. Mona's feet have been added specifically to our prayers.
The patron saints of foot ailments are St Servatus (whose feast day was May 13) and St Julia of Corsica (whose feast day is coming up on Tuesday!)
    St Servatus, pray for Mona!
    St Julia, pray for Mona!
We continue our prayers for all three of you ladies - and we love following your journey with you.
