We arrived in rainy Leon this morning via the train. Yes, I did say train.
Even the guidebook said it would be a good idea to ride in and out of the city since the walk is through an industrial area and is dangerous with the highway to contend with. We needed to make up some lost time and rest some feet so we skipped a whole day of walking to relax. However, once we arrived in the city we spent most of the day walking! We loved exploring and arrived at the Cathedral of Leon just in time for mass in the Chapel (Capilla de Santiago o de la Virgen del Camino).
While walking down a street we had a fun surprise. We ran into Alexia, a man from Germany that we first met on April 25th, our first night of walking. We saw him again on our second night and that was it until today!
He noticed us from across the street and waved hello. We waved and walked on for a few seconds until memory kicked in. We called out to him and he crossed the street to talk with us
It was such a happy meeting. As the day went on we were happy to see even more of our Camino friends: Ben from LA, Peter, Rhoda and Terry from Australia and Grace. We are hoping to see more of our friends who had gotten ahead of us.
We stopped in at least 9 pharmacies today. Don't ask! (Or if you do, ask Mona) It made it pretty tricky when we had to go back tonight to return an item and couldn't quite remember which pharmacy to go to! It's a long, funny story for another time.
In another store today Emily was trying to buy a tennis ball and the shopkeeper didn't understand what she wanted so she had to pantomime serving a ball up in the air and hitting it with a racket. After several attempts she scored, and the shopkeeper got it! (Score-Emily 40, shopkeeper 15)
KDR-fyi-we are rolling our feet on tennis balls!
Big news-HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my grandson Cole Goodman who is 12 today. May 17, 2017.
Thanks to Emily's David for reserving our hotel room today. Yes, I did say hotel and it has great wifi.
Lunch today-hot tea for a rainy day and a kind of bread pizza for only 2.40€ So yummy too!
And last...Elvis is alive and well in Leon, Spain!
